What is Hyundai SmartSense?
A Suite of Smart Safety Features
Hyundai has always been concerned with the safety of its drivers and passengers. To protect them, the automaker designed a collection of driver’s assist features called Hyundai SmartSense. Hyundai offers SmartSense as a standard feature on several models and adds it as an available option on others.

High Tech SmartSense Options on 2021 Hyundai Vehicles
Hyundai SmartSense 2021 includes several popular driver’s assist features. Some highlights include adaptive cruise control and lane-centering systems that make some vehicles seem semi-autonomous, although the automaker still recommends drivers always keep their hands on the wheel.
Other SmartSense features include lane-keeping assist systems, radar sensors for turn signals, and adaptive cruise control systems. Many come with blind-spot area sensors for notifications about vehicles in adjacent lanes. Some come with sensors that detect vehicles and pedestrians in the front, rear, and sides of the vehicle.
The newest addition to the SmartSense technology group is the Highway Driving Assist (HDA) which is like a semi-autonomous system that uses radar and sensors along with adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist to maintain a safe distance and speed.
Hyundai also offers the Remote Smart Parking Assist that parallel parks the vehicle using a remote key fob. Drivers don’t have to be in the car for the parking assist feature to work. This feature is only available on the Sonata sedan and the Nexo fuel-cell electric vehicle.
Another high-tech feature reminds drivers of backseat passengers. Rear Occupant Alert doesn’t just remind drivers to check the rear seat for passengers. The system detects motion in the rear seat, then honks the horn and alerts the driver’s smartphone.
Staying Safe with SmartSense
Hyundai already offers several standard safety features on its lineup of vehicles. Features like LED daytime running lights, stability control, electric power steering, and traction control make it safer for drivers and their passengers. But, the SmartSense collection of features makes driving even safer.
SmartSense includes features like Smart Cruise Control, Downhill Brake Control, Lane Keep Assist, and Blind-Spot Collision Warning to help drivers avoid collisions and maintain a safe speed at all times. Blind-Spot Collision Warning notifies drivers with a warning light on the side mirror if another vehicle is in the adjacent lane. Lane Keep Assist reads lane markings to tell drivers if they’ve veered out of their lane.
