Tire and Alignment FAQ

Keeping your wheels aligned properly is about more than just driving performance and tire longevity. It’s also about safety. A well-aligned car drives better keeps you and your loved ones safer, and extends the life of your tires. If you’ve noticed the rising cost of new tires, you’ll want to make yours last as long as possible. If your car has been pulling to the left or right and is not driving straight when you take your hands off the steering wheel, it could be time for a wheel alignment. First, check your tire pressure to ensure that uneven pressure is not the reason. Also, keep an eye on front and rear tread wear. If you notice your tires beginning to wear unevenly across the tread, stop by the service department at Spitzer Hyundai Cleveland so we can look at and recommend the proper repair.
Are My Tires Too Worn?
Another crucial aspect to consider is the tire tread depth. There are numerous methods for checking wear, including specialized tools, but the penny test is a quick way to measure tread wear. Simply place a copper penny into the groove of your tire tread with Lincoln’s head upside-down and facing you. If you can see the entire head, you have less than 2/32 of an inch of tread left and should get your tires replaced as soon as possible. This knowledge empowers you to take responsibility for your tire maintenance and ensure your safety on the road.
What’s the Difference Between a Wheel Alignment and Balancing?
Balancing wheels is a different process from aligning them. An alignment is adjusting the vehicle’s suspension so that it will straight. When Spitzer Hyundai Cleveland balances your wheels, we compensate for flaws in the tires and wheels with the same goal. We always balance wheels horizontally and vertically, getting them even so that they will roll straight and help your car perform its best. We can fix any imbalance or wobble by using specifically designed lead weights where they are needed. We balance your wheels whenever you purchase new tires from us or do an alignment. Balancing tires and wheel alignment is crucial for avoiding premature tire tread wear. Having your tires aligned and balanced every 5,000 to 6,000 miles can help lengthen the life of your tires and improve overall driving performance.
