Introducing Hyundai’s First Sport Adventure Vehicle

With the 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz, the automaker paired what drivers love about their SUVs and their pickup trucks. The automaker gave the Santa Cruz a peppy powertrain, an attractive interior, and plenty of high-tech features. Then, they developed four well-equipped trims and gave the truck an affordable price.

Impressive and Fuel-Efficient Performance

At its heart, the 2022 Santa Cruz is an SUV with the attitude of a pickup truck. The truck bed is small, so it doesn’t need the typical V8 engine that comes with its larger cousins. To give the 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz pickup truck what it needs to get the jobs done, the automaker gave it two powertrains: a 2.5-liter four-cylinder base engine that delivers 191 horses and the same engine with turbocharging that delivers 281 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque.

Hyundai paired both engines with an eight-speed automatic transmission but added a dual-clutch feature to the turbocharged powertrain. The 191-horsepower engine gets an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 21/26 MPG, while the turbocharged model is expected to deliver an EPA-estimated 19/27 MPG. Both engines come with front-wheel drive, while all-wheel drive is standard on the Limited trim.

What drivers appreciate about the Hyundai Santa Cruz 2022 model year is the unibody body-on-frame construction that gives the nimble handling of a crossover. It handles bumps with comfort and the smaller body makes it easier to maneuver through city streets and into parking spots.

The 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz isn’t just a fun pickup truck to drive, it has respectable towing capacities. The 191-horsepower engine can tow up to 3,500 pounds, while the turbocharged model can handle up to 5,000 pounds. That’s enough for a small trailer, boat, or RV.

Reputable Hyundai Safety Features

Along with its legendary powertrain warranty, Hyundai loads its new vehicles with safety features. The automaker didn’t shy away from continuing the tradition on the 2022 Santa Cruz. The 2022 model already earned a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

The 2022 Santa Cruz compact pickup truck comes standard with Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection, Driver Attention Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, and Lane Following Assist in the base SE trim.

The upgraded trims – the SEL, SEL Premium, and Limited – come with even more features that give drivers a semi-autonomous experience on divided highways. Those safety features include Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist. The Limited trim comes with a Surround View Monitor, a Blind-Spot View Monitor, Highway Driving Assist, and Navigation-Based Smart Cruise Control.

Hyundai also added active safety features that include Electronic Stability Control with Traction Control and Brake Assist. They also have standard Vehicle Stability Management and the ever-helpful Tire Pressure Monitoring System with individual tire indicators.

All the Popular Infotainment Tech

Even with the affordable 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz price point, the compact truck comes standard with plenty of popular infotainment features. They include a standard 8.0-inch color touchscreen with an HD radio system. All trims come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, and a pair of USB ports.

The SEL trim comes with SiriusXM Satellite Radio, Blue Link Connected Car Services, and Remote Start. The two top trims have a 10.25-inch infotainment system with navigation and traffic flow, Wireless Charging, and LED Interior Lighting. Hyundai adds Bose Premium Audio System to the Limited trim level.

Unique Exterior and Comfortable Interior Styling

With the spaciousness of an SUV, the interior styling on the Hyundai Santa Cruz is nothing short of comfortable. It has seating for five with cloth or leather seating surfaces. The dash has clean lines with an easy-to-see, intuitive central touchscreen and steering wheel controls.

On the outside, the Santa Cruz is available in six outdoorsy colors like Hampton Gray, Blue Stone, and Sage Gray. Buyers can add a tonneau cover to protect their cargo. The rear bumper step makes it easy to get into the truck bed, and the locking under-bed storage compartment adds more security for special items.
